Kitchen Renovation in Livermore.

One of our best kitchen renovations this year is our recently completed project on Newbury Street. This kitchen got a complete make-over from top to bottom! The new pendant lights along with the cool color palette formed by the cabinet color, countertop and backsplash colors really helped this old dated kitchen look new again. This kitchen not only elevated its style but also its functionality by saying “goodbye” to the old small island and separate dining table and welcoming a new island with lots of available counter space.  We are especially loving the fun pop of color for the island- seriously, love it!

But don’t just take our word on how well this job turned out. Look below for the project specifications and extensive before and after pictures!

Day to Day Progress Breakdown

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust by protecting the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper and then went to town removing the appliances, countertops, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors and drawers. We also reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz counters. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Days 2 & 3 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new pendant lights above the newly enlarged island. The existing can lights were replaced with new LED recessed light fixtures. On this day, our team also made modified the island by transforming it from a cabinet sized island to a full size table that can comfortably seat 5 people!

Day 4 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish. The sheetrock at the countertop was repaired and made ready for the new tile backsplash.

Days 5, 6 & 7 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Livermore home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy semi-glass paint in Cloud White were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets and a complimenting Kelly-Moore Harrow’s Gate was applied to the island. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Days 8 & 9 – The walls and ceiling in the kitchen also received a fresh coat of paint. Kelly-Moore Feather Stone paint with a Satin finish was applied to the walls and the ceiling was painted a low sheen of Cloud White.

Days 10 & 11 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Blanco Precis Silgranit super single bowl in Metallic Gray. Bedrosians Sequel Charcoal quartz countertops were installed with a small radius edge detail. The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Elume Heather Grey mosaic glass tiles on the backsplash. The backsplash was grouted using Ardex Silver Shimmer grout.

Days 12, 13 & 14 –  Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances.  The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Simplice faucet and Transitional Design soap dispenser, each with a vibrant stainless finish, were installed and the entire project was cleaned of all construction debris.
